Layout For This Week

This is my LO for this week, I'm also entering it in a Guest Designer contest over at Backporch Memories.
Backporch is a great site, it's a real friendly environment to be inspired and also inspire.
This LO is of our trip to San Diego for Claudia's Junior Worlds golf tournament. We are at Torrey Pines Beach enjoying the ocean even though it was freezing.
The supplies I used were actually out of my scrap bin believe it or not. I'm trying not to break the bank:)

Hi

Here is my entry for the card challenge over at Nicola's blog sketch #3 at My Paper World. Go check this out the challenge is going on until Feb 9th. This was a lot of fun, I'll definitely be participating in more. Thanks Nicola. The paper used for this card was from a stack but, I have no idea which one, sorry. The solid card stock is from DCWV mat stack brights, the ribbon, Hobby Lobby, the chipboard, Making Memories-flourishes, the brads I believe but I'm not quite sure are Making Memories and the "Hi" stamp, Studio G, clear stamps.
Thanks again Nicola

Laura's Lasagna

Happy Tuesday Everyone! All of my friends and family know my love for food. I just love to eat yummy foods. Thanksgiving this year my soon to be brother in law said, "seconds, your going for seconds!, man your a bottomless pit. " and I replied "that is what the gym is for":) One of my many hobbies is creating my own recipes. Today I will share one of my family's all time favorites, my Lasagna. I hope you all enjoy.

Laura's Lasagna

1 box of lasagna noodles
1 lb. of italian sausage sweet or spicy (I use Whole Foods spicy chicken italian sausage)
1 large tub of ricotta cheese
3 large fresh balls of mozzarella, sliced
1/2 cup of freshly grated parmesan cheese
A large bunch of fresh basil, julienned
2 jars of tomato sauce (I use Classico brand)
Salt & pepper, to taste

In a large pot boil water, add noodles let cook to al dente.
In a large bowl mix ricotta, parmesan, basil, and salt and pepper. Mix and set aside.
Remove casings from sausage and crumble until meat is cooked throughly.

In a large pyrex lasagna dish start layering your lasagna. Noodles first, ricotta cheese mixture second, then mozzarella slices, last the sauce and meat. Repeat until all the ingredients are gone. Make sure you end with tomato sauce on top. You can sprinkle the top with extra parmesan. Bake uncovered at 425-450 for 45min, or until brown and bubbly. Serve with crusty baguette bread and a big green yummy salad.
Enjoy:)

I'm Already Cheating

Alright, I'm going to cheat on this one! I was so busy this week I did not get my weekly page done. I have my pictures printed out, my supplies laid out, I even have a sketch. All I need to do is create my page. I will get it done this weekend. So in the meantime I'll pull one out from the archives. I love this layout it's of Eric and Claudia. I edited the photo in Photobooth to give it a punk feel. I mostly used the Elsie line for supplies. I also used my beloved Cricut to cut the flowers out. I will have a new layout for sure next week.:)

Turkey Chili

Brrr... Its cold outside here in Colorado. The high today is going to be 15 with light snow and tonight a low of 1 degree. Yuck! I'm ready for spring! With it being so cold I thought I would make my famous Turkey Chili and share the recipe with you all.
The recipe is so easy and makes a lot.

Laura's Turkey Chili
1 Lrg. can of hot chili beans
1 Lrg. can of pinto beans, drained
1 pkg. of ground turkey
1 med can of diced tomatoes
1 med can of tomato sauce
1/2 white onion, minced
3-4 cloves of garlic, minced
1 Tlb. kosher salt
1 Tlb. olive oil
Chili powder, to taste
Cayenne pepper, to taste

In a large pot with olive oil add white onion and garlic saute until soft. Add ground turkey and crumble the meat until cooked through. Add the beans, tomatoes and sauce, let simmer.
After all the ingredients have simmered awhile add chili powder, cayenne, and salt to taste. Let the chili simmer most of the day on low.
Serve with: Fritos, sharp cheddar cheese, and warm cornbread. Also a nice big yummy salad goes well.
Enjoy:)

New Goal

Here is my latest scrapbooking page. I seriously have not scrapbooked in months. I've been too busy making cards. I've decided to make this a mini personal goal to scrap at least a page a week, so stayed tuned for more pages.:)
This is last years Halloween (yes, that is how far behind I am) Claudia was a Bumble Bee. I made this costume when Claudia was three and was thrilled when she decided to re-use the cute Bumble Bee costume.

Meet the Rest of the Family

The rest of our family includes three cats. Yes, I said three... does any one want a cat? jk:) Our first cat is Gusarov. He is just your avrage grey tabby with a major eating disorder! When I picked him out from the litter of kittens, he was the only one nursing off his mama. I thought that was just so cute, it should of been a clue.
Our second cat is Guy. No that is not Guy as in man. It's French and pronounced "guie." Guy is named after the famous hockey player Guy LaFleur. Guy is an black and white Maine Coon that squeaks instead of meowing.
Third is our baby Ozzy, booboo for short. Ozzy is a cool cat with major personality. Ozzy is a Russian Blue who loves water and playing in the snow. He is definately the ruler of the house.

My Family

Hi my name is Laura, I am a stay at home mom. I'm addicted to card making and scrapbooking. There is nothing better than sitting at my scrapbooking table on a cold morning with a cup of coffee and being creative. I have been married to my wonderful husband Eric, for 14 years. Eric is an avid golfer and a great husband and father. Together we have one daughter Claudia who is almost 13. Claudia is a 7th grader at Kent Denver. Claudia plays competitive golf, loves school and hanging out with her friends. This blog is A Day in the Life of The Paper Poppy.
